In 2014, it was a national conference to address problems and potential strategies for river cleaning. The event was hosted by the National Clean Ganga Mission.

On July 7, 2014 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Ganga Manthan was organized. In order to promote dialogue with different stakeholders, including policy makers and implementers, scholars, environmentalists, saints and spiritual leaders from all faiths and NGOs for the cause of Ganga Rejuvenation, a national level consultation was held.

Sushri Uma Bharati, Honorable Minister of Water Management, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation; Shri Nitin Gadkari, Honorable Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development, Drinking Water & Sanitation; and Shri Shripad Naik, Honorable Minister of Tourism and Culture, addressed the inaugural session.

The inaugural session was followed by a sanitation session where spiritual leaders of various religious traditions came together on a common forum to direct and exchange views on the challenges and solutions of the Ganga River rejuvenation.

There were four parallel sessions after this session, in which the participants were divided into 4 groups:

  • Group A: Saints and Spiritual Leaders
  • Group B: NGOs and Environmentalists
  • Group C: Technocrats and Academicians
  • Group D: Public Representatives, Administrators and NGOs
