Health Schemes

Aim: Reduce preventable maternal and infant death, morbidity and complications associated with birth services in the Operating Room and Pregnancy OT to promote compassionate pregnancy treatment.

Features and Process:

  • Labor room reorganization/alignment & Maternity Service Theater configuration and procedure as per ‘Labour Room Standardization Guidance’ and ‘Maternal & Newborn Health Toolkit’ provided by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
  • Ensure that at least all government medical college hospitals and high-caseload district hospitals have dedicated obstetric units to treat difficult pregnancies requiring critical lifesaving treatment.
  • Maintaining full obedience to clinical guidelines for incident control and stabilisation until referral to higher centres.

OPERATIONALIZATION OF LAQSHYA

LaQshya is a nationwide initiative of the MoHFW, which integrates various approaches of quality of care including quality assurance and quality improvement of Labor Rooms (LR) and maternity Operation Theatres (OT). Project support for LaQshya includes provision of a Program Management Unit (PMU) embedded in the MoHFW to support implementation of the initiative at national level, and in focus states. In addition to its support for certification of facilities under LaQshya, the project will introduce process and technical innovations to further deepen and accelerate the program goals.
