Features:

  • The “Prohibition of Jobs as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013” was launched in 2007 and amended in 2013.
  • Manual Scavengers are qualified for assistance under the Program, as described under the “Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013” and their dependents, regardless of their income.
  • ‘Manual Scavenger’ means a person engaged or employed by an individual or local authority or public or private entity for the manual cleaning, transport, disposal or otherwise handling of human excreta in any manner whatsoever in an insanitary latrine or in an open drain or pit where human excreta from insanitary latrines or on a railway track is disposed of before the excreta is fully decomposed.
  • Manual scavengers rely on someone who is a part of their family or who is dependent on them.

Benefits are listed below:

  • One-time cash aid of Rs.40,000.
  • Loans with a concessional interest rate of up to Rs. 15.00 lakh.
  • Back end capital subsidy for credit connected up to Rs. 3,25,000.
  • Skill Growth Preparation for up to two years with a Rs.3,000 per month stipend.
